Claytor Lake State Park
.66 - 1.6 mi.
Claytor Lake State Park boasts a number of trails for hikers, all decently short, without too many hills with a combined length of four miles. The longest is Claytor Lake Trail which is 1.6 miles and like all the trails is open year round. The trail goes through the forest which is made up of mostly Hickory, Oak and Poplar trees, usually surrounded by Christmas Ferns and Morel Mushrooms. You will also likely run into White-Tailed Deer, Raccoons, and Squirrels which are native to this area. When you aren't hiking these easier trails you can rent a canoe, kayak, or even a cabin if you decide to stay the night. Claytor Lake State Park also boasts a beach swimming area that is supervised by lifeguards at all times which makes it a great place to cool off after your hikes and is a wonderful place to take children. If you have a disabled friend who would like to come along for the journey Bent Knee trail is only 1.1 miles and is paved the whole way, making it wheelchair and walker accessible. There are restrooms at the visitor center and gift shop in the center of the park but not along the trails, this is something to note if you decide to do all the trails.
